Does anyone have any product suggestions, or good old fashion home remedies to soften the leather?
leather conditioner or a nice long ride in the rain.

Rub it down with Saddle Soap, or any other leather conditioner. It’ll be soft as butter before you know it!

Go to a farm supply store. In the horse section near the saddles, there will be a ton of different stuff. Fiebings 4-way leather cleaner & conditioner would be a good start, then the Lexol leather conditioner is a great follow-up. I would coat it well & leave it in a warm place (on a towel) for a day. It may need a 2nd follow-up of Lexol, but I doubt it. These products are great & have been used to soften up ancient historic saddles people have found laying in barns for 50-75 years!
