Anyone interested in a three wheeled full cabin leaning motorcycle with tandem seating for two?

August 11th, 2009 by admin

We’re currently building a three wheeled full cabin leaning motorcycle with tandem seating for two. It will be capable of reaching 100mph, will fit two full size adults in tandem seating, have a working door for ingress/egress with room for luggage or groceries behind the second seat, and will lean into corners like a motorcycle with it’s trapeszoidal leaning front suspension. We’re finishing up our initial proof of concept now and are interested in finding out how manyt people would like to own this type of personal transport vehicle?

What type of powerplant are you using? How is this setup during extreme braking? I have seen articles before on this concept, but the working model never is produced, or is available in Europe, or is prohibitively expensive.
I would be curious to see info in this.
Good Luck!!

Sorry but I really can’t see the point in it myself. As the gentleman above says things like this have been developed over here but are always very expensive and not exactly over popular. A motorcycle is not just about the fact that it leans into corners and being enclosed in a box takes away a whole lot of the experience. Look at the roofed scooters made by BMW that still had the advantage of two wheels, were safe as you were strapped in and they kept a load of the elements off. They sold some but were hardly a success and have been dropped from production. Piaggio group have the new three wheeled scooter machines in production, with reasonable size engines in the bigger Gilera badged models, which will offer very similar performance to what you mention. They have some storage on them, can lean into corners and have some storage on them. They have some very clever engineering on them so your concept sounds basically like that with a cabin around it.
Best of luck with it but I would actually suspect a better target would be car drivers to convert rather than asking motorcyclists.

Likewise are looking at materials but think sidecar market
is over the top and a bubble ready to pop. Personally see
kayak transport saddles atop telescoping boom to fit wide
range of hull length has more market share value. Ballast
would be screw-capped six inch diameter pvc tube cut to hold sand weight upwards of one hundred pounds. It all is
bolted to underframe for low profile, and most kayaks look
more like cruise missles than cabins, isn’t that so?
Waterproof storage is standard with many production hulls
but as the boat is a personal purchase that cost would be eliminated from third-wheel materials (unlike cabins).
Also, the third wheel frame would be best option to fit LPG* tankage when gasoline engines are converted to run on dual fuels, which would be another reason stifle cabin interest.
Leaking LPG turns cabin enclosures into an explosion risk.

Is your concept similar to the Carver One with a MUCH more realistic price?

I think you are on the absolute right track and I’ll wager this is the "transport of the future". I’ve been riding motorcycles for 30+ years and have been waiting for this type of vehicle.

Do you have pictures/video ready for the web?

I Like the idea of a 3 wheeler that’s more affordable than the Carver..forgive the ignorance of steering geometry, but has it a Tadpole or Delta configuration?
Re the BMW bike with the rollbar canopy..IIRC,regardless of the protection built in,riders still had to wear a Helmet to be legal.that made the concept redundant and helped kill demand..
