Who’s the designer of Dr. House’s (Hugh Laurie) leather motorcycle jacket on House?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

I’ve been looking online all over to find out who makes that leather motorcycle jacket that Dr. House wears on House.

The only info I’ve come up with online is that the patch letters either say "RTAI" or "KTAI", but those letters don’t come up in any searches as references to motorcycles or racing.

My friend thinks it’s a Diesel jacket, but I don’t see anything like it on websites that sell Diesel merch.

My only other guesses would be that it is just made up by the costume designer of the show or it may have some Brittish background.

Anyway, it’s a really great jacket and If I could buy something like it for my fiance, cool.
Here is a link to the only still photo that I could find on the web that is not FLASH: http://www.tvchitchat.net/userimages/user-1533337_1162374668.png
Or you can go to Fox.com ’s HOUSE page, go to photos and the Flash player that comes up with a full lenght picture of him in this jacket.

Hi there.
The brand of the jacket is REV`IT. I have checked the official FOX website and there are some pictures of House wearing this motor jacket. Check the REV`IT website as well. Something simular is on there.
Hope this helps
Luc

what motorcycle would be good to use to cross the USA?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

what motorcycle would you recommend? I’m looking into crossing the US from east to west on a motorcycle…long time dream of mine…

what used bikes under approximately $ 2000 would be good/reliable/big enough to carry luggage?

$2K, huh?

That’s not a whole lot of money to spend, but you might be able to get creative. People (crazy people, but people nonetheless) have done the Iron Butt Rally on a Honda Helix 250 scooter.

If I were in your position, I’d look for an older UJM (a broad term, standing for Universal Japanese Motorcycle; usually an inline four with a standard or mildly forward seating position), something like a mid-80s Suzuki GS1100 or Honda CB900F, or a Yamaha XS 650,750, 850, or 1100. I hope you’re mechanically inclined, because bikes in your price range will either have lots and lots of miles on them, or be in relatively poor shape.

You might be able to find a relatively new Kawasaki Concours (not the brand new one), as well. Good bikes, and they still make parts for them.

Look for a used bike that comes with luggage, instead of adding luggage afterward. You’ll pay a hefty premium for new bags over used.

Good Luck!

Does anyone have any product suggestions, or good old fashion home remedies to soften the leather?

leather conditioner or a nice long ride in the rain.

Motorbike leather jacket?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

I am thinking of buying one but the leather seems to stiff. Should the leather of a bike jacket be stiff / hard or be normal. The leather of the red jacket I want to buy is similar to leather on trainers.

Stiff is good on a leather jacket made specifically for motorcycles. It means the leather is thick (which it usually is not on other leather jackets). And that means that leather will scrape off in the event of a wreck, leaving your skin intact. Thinner leather means less sliding distance before you begin to lose skin, and vice versa.
As it stretches from the effect of you wearing it and moving around, the leather will become more supple. You will also get used to the shape of the jacket. Bear in mind you don’t need to move around much when you’re riding, as long as you can move your head freely and reach the controls comfortably. You don’t need to be able to do gymnastics in the jacket or put both your legs behind your head. Unless you’re stunting :)

One other thing to look out for is impact-protective armor on the elbows, shoulders, and back. This is really important to keep joints and bones intact in a wreck. If the jacket doesn’t have armor in these areas, it should at have pockets so you can buy and insert armor.

Good luck! Happy riding.

Anyone interested in a three wheeled full cabin leaning motorcycle with tandem seating for two?

Tuesday, August 11th, 2009

We’re currently building a three wheeled full cabin leaning motorcycle with tandem seating for two. It will be capable of reaching 100mph, will fit two full size adults in tandem seating, have a working door for ingress/egress with room for luggage or groceries behind the second seat, and will lean into corners like a motorcycle with it’s trapeszoidal leaning front suspension. We’re finishing up our initial proof of concept now and are interested in finding out how manyt people would like to own this type of personal transport vehicle?

What type of powerplant are you using? How is this setup during extreme braking? I have seen articles before on this concept, but the working model never is produced, or is available in Europe, or is prohibitively expensive.
I would be curious to see info in this.
Good Luck!!
